Emergency Room Visit

So at about 7:15 this morning, Brett woke up with severe abdominal pains. His first thought was that his appendix had burst. So everybody woke up, and Elizabeth rushed him over to the hospital.
Matt and John came over to give Brett a blessing, and Chiaki, Elizabeth, Kent and I were there for support.
The emergency room was just so absolutely efficient (NOT) that it only took us about an hour before a diagnosis was made. But upon arrival, blood was taken, and the usual paperwork was filled out. The doctor came in for about two minutes, poked around his stomach area and left without too much explanation. Still thinking it was a problem with his appendix, Brett was seriously worried when the pain started moving down south too. Not only did his stomach hurt, but now that same pain was in his groin area as well. They wouldn't give him any pain medications until they were sure what was wrong, so he was in a really bad state.
Eventually, he ended up getting a CAT scan, and we discovered that Brett wasn't having problems with his appendix at all. He was PASSING KIDNEY STONES.
The doctor told us that the pain he would feel is similar to a woman giving birth. SO, i'm sure this experience will help him to be very empathetic. :)

Anyways, now we're at home, outpatient. The doctor sent us home with some meds and we just have to hang tight until the stone passes. The doc said it could be a couple hours or a couple days. So, we'll just pray that it's quick.

Thanks for all the love and support. Even right now, 3 hours later, we've gotten tons of concerned phone calls for Brett. We'll keep you guys updated.

Wow. Not a fun club to join.

Wow. Not a fun club to join. Hope it passes quickly. I'm so glad we live in a day when there are meds that take the edge off of this. When they gave me demerol(sp?) in the emergency room after a day of fighting it, was like I went straight to heaven...I could finally relax.
